Drumlanrig Castle

This November, Sebastián Espejo will immerse himself in the history, landscape, and architecture of one of Scotland’s most extraordinary estates: Drumlanrig Castle.

Known as the ‘Pink Palace’, Drumlanrig stands proudly in Dumfries & Galloway - a late 17th-century Renaissance masterpiece built from its distinctive sandstone. For over 600 years, it has been home to the Douglas family and today houses the internationally acclaimed Buccleuch Collection, with treasures by Rembrandt, Holbein, El Greco, Van Dyck, and Gainsborough.

Against this backdrop, Sebastián Espejo will explore painting as a practice of attentive wonder. His work - rooted in light, nature, and fleeting perception - will respond to the castle’s monumental presence, its shifting landscape, and the resonance of centuries embedded in stone. At Drumlanrig, the estate itself becomes both canvas and collaborator.

Tickets will include a 10am tour of Sebastian's collection made at Drumlanrig, as well as light refreshments.

We can’t wait to share what unfolds in this unique residency at the meeting point of art, history, and place.
