The nearest station is Redditch, around 6 miles away. The bus station is located opposite the rail station for onward travel.

By Bus
Coughton Court is on the Stagecoach No. X19 route between Stratford-upon-Avon and Redditch, running hourly. There’s a bus stop opposite Coughton Court (approximately 20 minutes from Redditch and 35 minutes from Stratford).
From the stop, follow the Coach Entry signs up the lane, through the gate, and past the Court to the Welcome Centre - about an 8-minute walk.
The Diamond No. 247 service from Evesham is less frequent (around 55 minutes) and stops at the same bus stop.

Located ½ mile from NCN Route 5, Coughton Court offers a cycle rack near Visitor Reception.

The family

Coughton Court has been home to the Throckmorton family for more than 600 years, making it one of England’s longest-standing family residencies. Their story is deeply woven into the fabric of Britain’s religious and political history - one marked by faith, loyalty, and resilience.

Much of the house visitors see today was built by Sir George Throckmorton in the early 16th century. A trusted courtier of Henry VIII, Sir George openly opposed the king’s break from Rome and his marriage to Anne Boleyn, placing the family at odds with the shifting tides of Tudor politics. Despite the risks, the Throckmortons remained steadfast in their Catholic faith, even through the centuries of persecution that followed.

Their unwavering beliefs brought them close to some of England’s most dramatic moments - from the Throckmorton Plot of 1583, a failed conspiracy to overthrow Elizabeth I, to later associations with the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Yet, through it all, the family endured, preserving both their faith and their home.

Today, Coughton Court continues to be cared for by descendants of the Throckmorton family, who maintain their ancestral connection to this remarkable place - a living testament to six centuries of English history, devotion, and survival.

Q: When is Coughton Court open?

A: The house, gardens, walled garden, café, shop and other facilities follow seasonal opening times. At the moment the property is closed for winter and will reopen in the spring. 
On a typical open day: house entry is by timed ticket (not bookable), last entrance at around 15:30, last entry into the property around 16:30.

Q: How much is admission?
A: General admission prices for 2026 will be released soon.

Q: Is the site accessible?
A: Yes, with some limitations. The grounds are partly accessible - there are gravel paths and some steps. Wheelchairs are available for hire. Blue Badge parking and drop-off point are provided. There is an accessible toilet, induction loop, level access to food outlet and shop. 
The ground-floor of the house is accessible but upper floors may not be.

By bike/foot: There is a cycle rack near visitor reception. The Arden Way footpath passes close by.
