5 Of The Best Christmas Markets to Explore at Stately Homes This Festive Season
There’s something uniquely uplifting about a Christmas market - and when it unfolds within the grounds of a historic estate, how can you possibly say no? Across the country, Britain’s great houses are opening their doors for winter fairs that blend craftsmanship, culture, and a sense of place. Think independent makers set against centuries-old architecture, thoughtful gifts sourced from local artisans, and seasonal food enjoyed in rooms that have hosted generations before us. These markets offer more than shopping; they’re an invitation to step into a different rhythm of the season, where heritage and community meet.
Here are some of the standout stately home Christmas markets to explore this year.
Blair Castle
Visitors can explore Banvie Hall - the beautifully atmospheric ballroom - as well as the tented Christmas village outside.
A wide variety of art and crafts will be on display, offering individuality and flair: woodwork, metalwork, antler art, textiles, art illustrations, pet treats, luxurious cushions and throws, ceramics and silk scarves. Locally designed jewellery crafted from silver, beads, gemstones, resin and glass will be available, along with a range of artistic styles, exquisite wood turning, children’s clothing and beautifully made knitwear. Guests will also find organic and vegan soaps and skincare, candles, reed diffusers, wax melts and a selection of bee-based products — all lovingly created in Scotland.
Food lovers can look forward to a glorious selection of tempting treats at the Blair Christmas Fair. Highlights include confectionery from Kilted Fudge, delicious preserves from Spice Harmony, pickles from Zingy Tingy Beetroot, fresh game such as steaks, pies and sausages, appetising salmon and seafood, and a wonderful assortment of cheeses.
A range of alcohol producers will also be present, offering an impressive selection of gins, rums, vodkas, craft beers and liqueurs.
Nae Bad will attend with their charming horse box serving hot and cold refreshments, pancakes, paninis and cakes. Seasonal Flavour will offer a tasty range of artisan street food suitable for all ages, and Henderson’s Fine Food will provide their popular spit-roasted pulled-pork buns.
