HX Suggested Reasons to Visit
Walk in the footsteps of kings at Scone Palace, where Macbeth and Robert the Bruce were crowned, and the Stone of Scone once rested. Set in breathtaking parkland above the River Tay, this historic seat of Scottish royalty invites you to explore its majestic rooms, ancient grounds, and legendary past
About
Set above the River Tay, with sweeping views towards the Grampian Mountains, Scone Palace has stood at the heart of Scotland’s history for centuries. Once the seat of Scotland’s high kings, it was here that 42 monarchs, including Macbeth and Robert the Bruce, were crowned upon the Stone of Scone. Today, it remains the family home of the Earls of Mansfield, welcoming visitors to explore its royal legacy, grand state rooms, and magnificent gardens.
For centuries, Scone has been a place of power and celebration, hosting parliaments, coronations, banquets, and royal visits—including that of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1842. Inside, the stunning interiors reflect its regal past, from the elegant dining rooms to the great hall, where generations of history unfold.
Beyond the Palace, 100 acres of gardens and parkland provide a perfect retreat. The Murray Star Maze, inspired by the Palace’s heraldic history, offers an intriguing challenge, while the Walled and Kitchen Gardens brim with heritage fruit and vegetables. The Victorian Pinetum, planted with towering specimens from across the world, reflects a legacy of horticultural ambition, and the surrounding woodland paths invite visitors to take in views stretching across Strathmore to the coast.
Scone Palace offers both self-guided and private tours, allowing guests to explore at their own pace. The Old Servants’ Hall Coffee Shop serves freshly baked scones, light lunches, and traditional high tea, while the Palace Gift Shop and Food Shop offer a carefully curated selection of locally sourced produce, artisan gifts, and handcrafted Scottish souvenirs.
Just an hour from Scotland’s major cities, Scone Palace remains one of the nation’s most significant stately homes, inviting visitors to step into the past, explore its breathtaking surroundings, and experience a place where Scotland’s history was made.
